A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded for seven days by the Bahau Magistrates’ Court after the body of his six-year-old son was discovered buried in a wooded area in Rompin, Jempol, earlier this week.
The remand order, issued by Magistrate Norshazwani Ishak, is effective until 7 August to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Jempol District Police Chief Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar confirmed the order on Friday, following the suspect’s transfer from Johor.
Prior to this, the man had been held under remand in Johor Bahru from 25 July to assist with investigations under Section 187 of the Penal Code for lodging a false police report. He had claimed that his son had gone missing after being left unattended in a car while he stepped out to buy food.
The boy, who was reported missing on 24 July in Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru, was later found buried in a bushy area in Rompin. Authorities subsequently arrested the father, who is now the primary suspect in the case.
Initial police interviews suggest the man may have been dealing with domestic issues and was in the midst of divorce proceedings. Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the victim is believed to have been strangled with a cable tie, with neck compression identified as the cause of death.
On 29 July, The Vibes reported that the father had lodged a police report at 2.15am on 25 July, claiming his son disappeared around 6pm the previous day in Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru. Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner M Kumarasan said the father alleged his son vanished from a parked car while he went to purchase food nearby.
The child’s death has sparked widespread public concern, with police continuing to investigate the motive behind the alleged murder. - August 1, 2025
