OVER 100 people gathered outside Masjid Negara and began marching towards Dataran Merdeka this afternoon to take part in the ‘Himpunan Nasional Malaysia Bangkit Untuk Gaza’ (H4G) rally, a large-scale humanitarian demonstration in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
The peaceful procession commenced at 5.30pm following Asar prayers and saw participation from over 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including Yayasan Amal Malaysia, HALUAN, IKRAM, Gerakan Pembela Ummah, and Muslim Care Malaysia.
Despite a downpour that began around 3.30pm, demonstrators remained undeterred, many seen in raincoats and under umbrellas. The crowd was joined and monitored by officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and members of PAS’s Unit Amal to ensure order.
The H4G rally, organised by the Secretariat Humanity 4 Gaza, was supported by various government agencies and cross-party MPs. H4G Director Datuk Mohd Apandi Mohamad noted earlier that cooperation from Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and PDRM had been instrumental in facilitating a peaceful and orderly event.
According to organisers, the event was scheduled to run from 4pm to 11pm, with participants converging at Dataran Merdeka from Masjid Negara, Masjid Jamek and SOGO.
The main programme began at 5pm and featured performances by nasheed groups Far East and Rabbani, a recital by Palestinian children, special prayers, and speeches by NGO leaders, civil society representatives, and international figures including Dr Marwan from the Palestinian Ulama Union.
The rally was positioned as a unifying humanitarian call transcending political and religious boundaries, highlighting Malaysia’s solidarity against the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the campaign to free Al-Aqsa and restore Palestinian rights.
In a statement issued ahead of the rally, Dang Wangi District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said approximately 5,000 attendees were expected.
He reminded participants to observe restrictions on sharp objects, weapons, fireworks, and incendiary devices, and to refrain from bringing children or displaying banners bearing the sensitive 3R elements – race, religion, and royalty.
Participants were also cautioned against acts of provocation, defamation, or resisting police orders during the gathering. - August 9, 2025
