POLICE have confirmed that a college student found hanging from a ceiling fan in her Subang Jaya home last Thursday was murdered, ruling out suicide.

Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, said a post-mortem conducted by a forensic pathologist at Hospital Serdang concluded that the cause of death was bleeding around the hyoid bone in the neck, consistent with manual strangulation.

"The injuries to the victim's muscles and bones were caused by manual strangulation," he said in a statement on Sunday.

"Based on these findings, the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder."

Wan Azlan said investigations are ongoing to determine further details and the motive behind the crime.

The police had initially responded to a distress call at 11:55am on the day of the incident. The caller was the victim’s father, who discovered his daughter’s body hanging from a ceiling fan in the living room on the second floor of their residence in USJ 2/1.

"Medical personnel at the scene confirmed the victim had died," said Wan Azlan.

He urged the public not to spread unverified information or speculate on the case via social media, adding that the authorities are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

"Those with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to contact the Subang Jaya District Control Centre at 03-2786 27100 or speak directly to the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Zainol Aazizi Abu Bakar, at 013-322 7632," he added. - August 17, 2025
