TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of uploading seditious and criminally threatening posts to the social media platform X, police confirmed on Monday.
Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Datuk M Kumar, said the first post was detected on 24 August and alleged that Malaysia was on the verge of being taken over by extremists and facing a revolution.
“The second post was uploaded via another X account, commenting on the Israeli strike on the Prime Minister’s residence,” he said in a statement.
Kumar added that the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) under Bukit Aman’s CID D5 division launched investigations as soon as reports were received.
“The first suspect, aged 37, has been remanded for two days from Monday to Tuesday, while the second suspect, aged 43, has been remanded for four days from Monday to Thursday to assist with investigations,” he said.
The first case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The second case is being investigated under Section 506 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he added.
Kumar stressed that the police will not compromise with any party spreading seditious remarks, threats, or content that could disrupt societal harmony. - August 25, 2025
