THE case involving David Balisong, a 17-year-old British teenager reported missing since June and later found at a budget hotel on Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, has been officially closed after police confirmed no criminal activity was involved.
Datuk Shazeli Kahar, Selangor Police Chief, confirmed that the case is considered resolved after David was reunited with his mother yesterday and has since returned to the United Kingdom.
“The teenager was handed over to his mother after the police completed their investigations,” he said on Saturday.
Earlier reports stated that David had left his home in Greater Manchester, UK, in early June following a disagreement with his family. He travelled alone to Malaysia without informing them, initially telling his family he had school matters to attend to.
Datuk Fadil Marsus, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, explained, “Based on initial statements, the teenager left home after a disagreement with his family before boarding a flight to Kuala Lumpur on 6 June.”
David was found safe by police on Thursday evening after a tip-off from community activist Kuan Chee Heng, known as Uncle Kentang. At the time, he was noticeably thinner due to a diet largely consisting of fast food during his time in hiding.
The police investigation confirmed no evidence of any wrongdoing or criminal offence.
“This case is now closed as there is no indication of any criminal offence or wrongdoing,” said Datuk Shazeli.
David last contacted his mother on 9 July via email, asking the family not to worry, apologising for his actions, and encouraging them to continue succeeding in life. - Sept 6, 2025
