THE Attorney General's Chambers today said strict action will be taken against any party that tries to interfere with witnesses by making threats and disrupting the process of justice regarding the inquest proceedings involving the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Attorney General, Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, said any form of threat as against pathologist, Dr Jessie Hiu, should not have happened.
"We view such acts seriously and I was informed that the individual in question was also arrested early this morning under Section 507 of the Penal Code.
"I remind all parties that strict action will be taken if anyone tries to disrupt the process of justice and disturb witnesses by making threats.
"Dr Jessie Hiu's testimony is very important for the inquest proceedings to find a decision for the sake of justice for all parties.
"Therefore, any form of intimidation or negative action that could threaten the conduct of witnesses including forensic pathologists will not be taken lightly," he said.
He said this at a press conference after officiating the Madani Malaysian Adoption School Launch Ceremony of the Attorney General's Chambers at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Long Gaffar in Kota Bahru, today.
Earlier, forensic pathologist, Dr Jessie Hiu, lodged a police report regarding threats received from netizens believed to have followed her testimony for two days in the inquest proceedings into the death of Zara Qairina.
The matter was confirmed by Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda and the suspect who made the threat was arrested early this morning.
Mohd Dusuki hoped that the investigation into the individual who made the threat be expedited.
“I also advise all parties to be patient as the inquest proceedings are just getting underway. What we are doing is to seek justice for all parties including the family and the victim.
“So I ask for respect for the justice process and let it proceed smoothly and find the truth,” he said. - September 7, 2025
