THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that no mineral exploration activity took place in Sabah involving a company linked to businessman Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, and that the investigation into the matter has been closed.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the case stemmed from allegations that a company associated with Farhash had received state approval to explore mineral resources in Sabah.
“We carried out a full investigation, and I can now confirm that, firstly, there was no land application submitted,” Azam told reporters at MACC headquarters on Tuesday.
“This was not a land application. What existed was a conditional application for mineral exploration submitted to the Sabah Mineral Management body, not an approval from the Sabah state government or its Executive Council. That distinction is important,” he said.
Azam explained that the conditional approval was granted by Sabah Mineral Management in March 2023, pending the submission of several required documents. However, the company in question failed to furnish the necessary paperwork.
“As a result, the application was cancelled on 20 March this year. There was no exploration carried out due to the lack of documentation,” he clarified.
He further stated that, following the investigation, the Deputy Public Prosecutor had determined there were no grounds for criminal charges.
“The case is therefore closed. No offence was found to have been committed by any party,” Azam added. - September 9, 2025
