TWO police personnel with the rank of Lance Corporal and Constable were fined RM10,400 after pleading guilty at the Perlis Syariah High Court to four charges of close proximity (khalwat) at a house in Arau and Kangar last June.

The accused, Muhamad Zulhafiz Hairo Azaman, together with his partner, Nurul Amila Zamri, both aged 25, were charged under the Syariah Criminal Offenses Enactment.

According to the charge, they were charged with committing the offence at a house in Taman Muda Asas Pauh, Arau from 12.01 am to 12.20 am on June 4 and at another house in Taman Bunga Mawar, Kangar at around 12.20 am on June 21.

The prosecution proceedings were conducted by the state's Deputy Syariah Prosecutors, Dzuhaili Dzakwan and Syed Najib Syed Alwi, while the accused were not represented.

Dzuhaili in his submission asked the court to give a deterrent sentence to both accused because the accused committed repeated offences as well as to teach the accused and the public to stay away from acts of khalwat.

Muhamad Zulhafiz in his guilty plea asked the court to reduce the sentence by giving him a minimum sentence because the accused was supporting his siblings

In fact, the accused said he was also planning to get married after this.

At the same time, Nurul Amila also appealed to the court to reduce the sentence to a minimum as she is also helping her family financially.

Nurul Amila is also planning to get married to her partner.

Immediately after their guilty pleas were recorded, Judge Mohamad Fauzi Ismail imposed a fine of RM5,200 each or two months in prison if they failed to pay the fine. - September 11, 2025
