KUALA Besut State Assemblyman Azbi Salleh was involved in a road accident early Monday morning along Jalan Gerik, Perak, while travelling towards Baling, Kedah.

Azbi said he was accompanied by three staff members from the Kuala Besut constituency service centre, and they were en route to the 2025 PAS Central Congress at the PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut, Kedah.

According to him, the car they were travelling in skidded and lost control while navigating a bend at approximately 1.30am.

"The accident happened in an instant — we were all chatting, and I was seated in the rear passenger seat," Harian Metro cited him saying when contacted.

"The car suddenly lost control while taking a corner. The road surface was slippery as it had just rained heavily. The vehicle spun several times after hitting the guardrail before coming to a stop."

He added that once the car stopped spinning, the group immediately looked for a way out, fearing the vehicle might catch fire.

"All of us escaped safely and received outpatient treatment at Gerik Hospital after managing to get out of the car," he said.

Azbi confirmed that they had to cancel their plans to attend the PAS congress and returned to Besut, Terengganu, instead.

He said the group would be taking some time to rest and recover following the incident. - September 15, 2025
