AUTHORITIES have uncovered a brothel operating within a settlement housing foreign workers in Pulau Indah Industrial Park during a sweeping immigration raid that resulted in the arrest of over 660 undocumented migrants.
The brothel, located on the third floor of a commercial unit, had reportedly been operating for more than six months and was aimed at both local lorry drivers and foreign workers in the vicinity.
The premises were found to contain 13 air-conditioned rooms, each fitted with surveillance cameras and guarded by lookouts to alert occupants of approaching enforcement teams.
During the 9.30pm operation, which spanned until 12.30am, officers were unable to detain any of the suspected sex workers, believed to be foreign nationals, as they fled upon being tipped off by lookouts.
"Checks revealed the premises were fitted with closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems to monitor movement from the ground floor to the third level," said an officer involved in the raid. "The brothel operators also used spotters at the entrance to evade authorities."
The establishment was abandoned hastily, leaving behind personal items, food, and evidence of sexual services such as condoms and tissues.
Authorities believe at least eight women were involved, offering services priced between RM150 and RM300. The operation is suspected to have been run by locals, exploiting foreign women holding expired or misused social visit passes.
Further inspection also uncovered a hidden store of illicit alcohol on the second floor, believed to be intended for patrons of the brothel.
The Selangor Immigration Department’s director, Khairul Aminus Kamarudin, confirmed a broader enforcement action was carried out at the site across nine blocks of shop lots, involving over 100 premises following four months of intelligence gathering.
“Out of 1,132 individuals screened, a total of 662 foreign nationals were detained,” he said during a media briefing at the scene.
Those detained include 643 men and 19 women aged between 16 and 80, comprising nationals from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Nepal and India. They were arrested for offences including lacking valid documentation, overstaying, and violating pass conditions.
“Some foreign workers' hostels were found to be poorly maintained, and this will be referred to the Department of Labour for further action,” added Khairul Aminus.
The multi-agency raid was conducted by the Selangor Immigration Department in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Air Operations Force, Klang City Council, and the National Registration Department, involving a total of 242 officers.
He reminded employers not to harbour undocumented migrants, warning of legal consequences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
“Malaysia needs foreign workers, but they must abide by the rules and be legally employed,” he said, adding that such enforcement operations would continue across Selangor. - September 25, 2025
