KUALA LUMPUR – After receiving a viral WhatsApp message, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong today lodged a police report, calling on the authorities to investigate the “false allegation” made in the text.
“As soon as I received the slanderous WhatsApp message, I immediately headed to the Cheras police station to lodge a report. I want PDRM to investigate this false allegation making the rounds on WhatsApp of late.
“This slander and imputation were not only targeting me, but also dragged in multiple government agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission,” he said in a Facebook post.
According to some of the news reports he shared, it is believed that the message is titled “Konspirasi Dan Skandal Rasuah Di Malaysia”, and purportedly linked to an individual named Muhammad Fauzan Jamil.
MACC had contacted the individual on Thursday.
“The individual said he is not linked to the message, which contained his name and identity card number,” reported Sinar Harian.
Wee said: “As minister of transport, I will respect the investigative process by MACC into a senior officer of the Marine Department and several others involved in obtaining certain exemptions to use ‘single hull, single bottom’ and/or ‘single hull, double bottom’ vessels to transport heavy grade fuel without the minister’s approval.
“It has long been the practice of the International Maritime Organisation to only allow the use of ‘double hull, double bottom’ vessels to carry heavy grade fuel.”
The WhatsApp message implicated the ministry and Marine Department in a fuel syndicate covering coastal areas. – The Vibes, December 27, 2020
