FOUR Form 5 students at a school in Alor Gajah, Melaka who were suspected of being involved in a sexual misconduct case with a Form 3 female student have been expelled from school with immediate effect.
Education Director-General Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said the decision was made by the School Disciplinary Board which convened today.
"The School Disciplinary Board convened today and has imposed expulsion sentences on all suspects involved," he said at a special press conference at the Education Ministry, today.
At the same time, Mohd Azam said that all suspects in the case will also not sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination at the same school.
He said that all the students concerned will sit for the public examination either at the detention centre or at a place separate from their school centre.
He said that when the students involved are expelled from school, they are likely to apply to go back to school but not at the same place.
"They will be in another school. We will also keep their identities secret so they can sit for the examination. If, for example, they are placed in a detention centre, there are procedures in the SPM examination management book at the Malaysian Examinations Board (LPM) and we will manage them according to the existing procedures," he said.
Mohd Azam said that where they will take the examination will be managed by officers at the District Education Office (PPD) levels.
He said that the students in question have the right to sit for the SPM examination and the MOE will ensure that they can do so.
"For us at the MOE level, our principle is simple... that a person is innocent until proven guilty by the court.
"So that is the principle that we have always held," he said.
However, Mohd Azam said that allowing suspects to sit for the SPM examination does not mean that they will escape punishment and that it did not interfere with the ongoing legal process. - October 13, 2025
