THE government is implementing a series of reforms aimed at revitalising the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), with a particular focus on improving the socio-economic wellbeing of its second- and third-generation settlers.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the reforms, while not detailed in full, are intended to promote social mobility, uplift living standards and provide long-term stability for FELDA communities.
“The government has also undertaken a financial restructuring of FELDA through sukuk issuance, with the aim of restoring FELDA’s financial sustainability, which in turn will enable better support for settlers and their descendants,” he said in a written reply published on Parliament’s website.
Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as Minister of Rural and Regional Development, emphasised that housing remains a key priority, particularly resolving issues involving the construction of two homes on a single plot — a long-standing concern for new generations of settlers.
“Infrastructure development in FELDA schemes and housing areas for the second generation is also a focus — this includes roadworks, drainage and other essential facilities,” he added.
He was responding to a question from Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Independent–Gua Musang), who asked about the government’s plans to reform FELDA and improve the quality of life and economic opportunities for its younger generations.
Ahmad Zahid further noted that improvements in education and skills development form part of the FELDA reform agenda to boost employability and competitiveness among youth in the community.
He also highlighted the importance of expanding technological access to ensure FELDA communities are not left behind in the digital economy. Key initiatives include the FELDA Youth Entrepreneur Fund (TUBF), the Settler Development Programme (PPP), and grants under the Sejati MADANI initiative. - October 16, 2025
