POLICE confirmed that the cause of death of a University of Malaya (UM) student who fell from the Zainab Block building, Residential College 13 yesterday was serious head injuries from falling from a high place.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said that the post-mortem also found no signs of strangulation or any other criminal elements.
“The post-mortem at the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) began at 10pm yesterday and was completed at about 3am today.
“The post-mortemy found that the victim, Ahmad Arif Zawir Mohd Ali, 22, suffered injuries to the head and chest.
“No signs of strangulation or other criminal elements were detected,” he said.
According to Shamsudin, the victim's body was claimed by family members at 10am for burial.
It was earlier reported that Ahmad Arif Zawir was found lying on the ground floor of his residential block at around 3.15 pm yesterday.
The victim, who was also a student of Applied Science with Islamic Studies, UM's Islamic Studies Academy, was then rushed to PPUM for treatment.
Based on a statement issued by the UM management, the victim was confirmed to have died while receiving treatment at PPUM. - October 18, 2025
