TRAFFIC congestion began building up across several major highways throughout Peninsular Malaysia this morning, as thousands of motorists embarked on their journeys home or to holiday destinations ahead of Deepavali celebrations.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) confirmed that vehicle volume had increased significantly since early morning, particularly on routes heading north, south and east.
On the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, traffic was reported to be slow-moving from Sungkai to Bidor and again between Bidor and Tapah due to the surge in vehicles. A collision near KM349.2 earlier in the morning contributed to the jam, although clean-up operations were completed by 8.38am.
In the south, congestion was recorded at the Johor Causeway from Woodlands to Johor Bahru, and on the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link (Linkedua), with traffic building up from Tuas towards the Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ Complex.
Motorists heading east via the Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (KLK) experienced delays before the Gombak Toll Plaza en route to Genting Sempah. Similarly, slow traffic was reported on the Seremban–Port Dickson Expressway westbound before the Mambau Toll Plaza heading to Port Dickson.
“Drivers are strongly advised to plan their journeys carefully and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent any untoward incidents,” LLM stated on Facebook.
The agency also reminded motorists that live traffic updates are available through its hotline at 1-800-88-7752, as well as via its official social media channels @llmtrafik and apps such as TUJU and MyJalan.
As of 9.30am, conditions remained heavy in most areas, and authorities expect traffic volume to increase throughout the day and over the Deepavali weekend. - October 19, 2025
