POLICE have arrested three more foreign nationals in connection with the brutal killing of a woman and her 11-year-old daughter at their rented home in Kampung Sekolah Juru last Saturday.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the men, all aged between their 30s and 40s, were detained on Friday and will be brought before the court tomorrow for a remand order to assist with further investigations.

“We have made three new arrests and they will be taken to court tomorrow for a remand application. All of them are foreign nationals who know each other and are believed to have fled the scene earlier,” he said when contacted today.

Azizee also confirmed that the victim’s husband, aged 57, who has been under remand since Sunday, is expected to be released on police bail tomorrow.

Earlier, three individuals — including the husband — had been detained to assist with the investigation.

The victims, identified as kuih seller Sariya Che Hin and her adopted daughter, Nur Afrina Alisha Abdul Rahim, were found dead at their home around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. Their bodies were discovered by Sariya’s husband.

According to investigators, the woman’s body was found in the ground-floor kitchen with a deep slash wound to the neck, while the young girl was found face down and covered in blood upstairs.

Police are continuing investigations into the motive of the killing, which has shocked the local community. - October 25, 2025
