A MALE student was charged at the Kuala Selangor Magistrate's Court for sexually assaulting a classmate at a secondary school in Sabak Bernam on October 13.

However, the 15-year-old accused pleaded not guilty to the charges read out before Magistrate Mohamad Ibrahim Muhammad Ghulam.

According to the charges, the youngest of three siblings was charged with sexually assaulting a female student.

The act was allegedly committed in a classroom at the school at about 9.30am on October 13.

He was charged with committing the offence under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Convictions include a fine, community service order or being sent to an approved school such as Henry Gurney School.

In addition, the court can impose a prison sentence subject to Section 96(2) of the Children Act for a certain period.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Azamuddin Razak proposed bail of RM6,000 taking into account the fact that cases involving school students have become increasingly serious in recent times.

However, lawyer Aina Suraya Ahmad Nor Hisham appealed for a reduction because the student needed to seek further treatment at the hospital due to a road accident.

"He (the client) previously suffered a broken leg and bleeding in the brain.

"His father works as a farmer with an income of only RM500 a month," she said.

The court then allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety and the case was set for mention on December 1. – October 27, 2025
