A MAN died after his head was severed after being hacked by his brother-in-law in a fight in a rice field in Kampung Pida 3, Jerlun yesterday.

Kubang Pasu District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said they received a call from the public informing them that a fight had occurred at 7.05pm yesterday.

He said the body of a man was found lying on his back in a rice field located about 30 metres from the suspect's house.

"The suspect was successfully arrested at around 8pm after the police managed to persuade the suspect who was still holding the machete at the time.

"The machete measuring 30 centimetres (cm) long was seized to assist in the investigation," he said.

Mohd Radzi said that the investigation found that the suspect and the victim were related.

He said that the victim was lying on his back with his head severed and located one metre from his body, in addition to several cut marks found on the victim's body.

"The victim was 45 years old while the suspect was 38 years old. After the incident, the suspect was in a room in his house before being persuaded out about 15 minutes later," he said.

Mohd Radzi said that the investigation also found that the suspect and the victim did not have any criminal records.

He said that both worked as rice farmers and so far the police are still conducting investigations to find out the cause and motive of the incident.

"The victim has a wife and two children while the suspect is single. They live nearby.

"The victim's body has been sent to the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar for a post-mortem and the suspect will be remanded tomorrow at the Alor Setar Court," he said.

He said that so far the cause is still under investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - November 1, 2025
