A 15-YEAR-old girl was confirmed to be six months pregnant after she was taken by her foster sister to a private clinic in Taman Sawit, in Tawau, yesterday.
The incident led to the arrest of a 19-year-old male suspect for allegedly raping the victim.
Tawau District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin, said a police report was lodged after the woman, who was also the complainant, was informed by the victim that she had been taken by her boyfriend to a house in the Taman Sri Balung area and raped.
Acting on the report, a police team from the Tawau District Criminal Investigation Division launched an operation in the Bandar Sri Indah area and managed to arrest the suspect to assist in the investigation.
“The police team launched an operation in the area and managed to arrest the suspect, a 19-year-old male suspect, on suspicion of being involved in the case,” he said in a statement.
The suspect is now being detained for further investigations under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape.
"Parents need to monitor the activities and movements of their children so they do not get involved or become victims of crime or immoral acts.
