A WEAK earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck northern Kalimantan city of Tarakan in Indonesia at 6.37pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

The quake, with its epicentre located 227km south of Sapulut, Sabah, occurred at a depth of 10km at coordinates 2.7° North and 116.6° East.

“Tremors may have been felt in southern Sabah. The meteorological department will continue monitoring the situation,” MetMalaysia was quoted as saying. – November 5, 2025
