THE Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 25 garbage trucks from one company in Selangor over a two-week enforcement operation focusing on vehicles driven by foreign nationals.
Senior Enforcement Director of JPJ, Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, said the crackdown targeted a specific company due to multiple accidents involving its vehicles.
“In the two weeks of enforcement, we seized 25 trucks from the same company,” he said. “This is a serious and recurring offence, and JPJ felt the need for a coordinated action to address the matter.”
Muhammad Kifli noted that under the Road Transport Act 1987, JPJ can only impose minimal penalties for such violations. For the seized vehicles, action will be taken under the Land Public Transport Agency Act (APAD) to revoke ownership rights.
“We consider this insufficient because the companies employing these drivers face no consequences, as most of their workers are either undocumented or misusing work permits,” he said. “Hence, JPJ will cooperate with the Immigration Department to take integrated action against truck operators employing foreign drivers without valid licences.”
He confirmed that all 25 trucks will be handed over to the Immigration Department for further action against the company under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Muhammad Kifli explained that the new approach was necessary to prevent repeated violations and avoid accidents. He added that JPJ had engaged with the company four times to address recurring offences, but violations persisted despite promises to comply.
From January to yesterday, JPJ Selangor recorded a total of 5,915 offences involving foreign drivers, including summonses under Notice P22, inspection orders, vehicle bans, and vehicle seizures. - November 7, 2025
