KUALA LUMPUR – The implementation of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) should be considered a success as four million Malaysians would have contracted Covid-19 without such restrictions, said health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said today that a model done by the ministry projected millions of infected Malaysians if no movement restrictions were in place.

Today, Malaysia has a cumulative total of 106,690 cases.

“From what we’ve learnt, the movement control order was successful in terms of health, but the economic impact was very high,” he said during his daily press conference.

He said in the current third wave, the ministry would ideally impose a total lockdown, but the economic ramifications led to the CMCO’s implementation instead.

“The government may have given us some leeway, but use this opportunity to be highly compliant with standard operating procedures.

“We will be able to curb the spread of Covid-19 by complying with the SOPs.” – The Vibes, December 28, 2020
