WEE Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, has been released on police bail while authorities await the full autopsy report in the ongoing investigation into the death of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the release, effective today, will last until 26 November.

“He has been released on police bail until 26 November. The investigation papers will be referred back to the Attorney General’s Chambers once the full autopsy report is ready,” he said in a statement.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed yesterday that Namewee would be released as there was no evidence linking him to Hsieh’s alleged murder.

“However, investigations are ongoing, and further instructions have been issued to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to continue their probe. Any new findings will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers once received,” he said.

Namewee had been in police custody since 5 November, when he was first remanded for six days. His detention was later extended for an additional three days, which expired today.

Earlier reports indicated that the Malaysian artist was the last person seen with Hsieh before her death. The influencer’s body was discovered in a bathtub at a Kuala Lumpur hotel on 22 October.

Initially classified as a sudden death, the case was later reclassified as a murder investigation.

Namewee was also detained on suspicion of drug possession and use and had previously been charged at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on 24 October for unrelated offences. November 13, 2025
