BEATING, slapping and repeatedly hitting a pet monkey.
That was the violent act of a local man who was found abusing the animal in a 1 minute 44 second video that went viral on social media yesterday.
Based on the video, a man in his 30s, believed to be from a state in the east of the country, was seen 'wrestling' with the adult monkey, which was chained around its neck.
The man then strangled the monkey's neck before repeatedly slapping the wild animal's face and head.
Not only that, the man then dragged the monkey before lifting it and slamming it to the ground.
The man's friends were heard laughing in the background and did not stop the violent act.
Meanwhile, the Persatuan Haiwan Terbiar Malaysia (SAFM) said that it had received complaints from the public regarding the dissemination of the video showing the abuse of a macaque believed to have occurred in Kelantan.
“In the video, the macaque was seen being chained, slapped several times, and kicked until the animal was in pain.
“We urge the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) to take immediate action.
“We also call on witnesses or individuals who have information about this incident to come forward to assist in the investigation. We would also like to remind you that animal abuse is a serious offence under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010,” said SAFM. - November 14, 2025
