A PASSENGER'S power bank overheated and caught fire on board a Scoot flight from Hong Kong to Singapore on Nov. 22, but was quickly extinguished by cabin crew, with no injuries reported.

Singapore Airlines’ budget arm Scoot on Sunday confirmed the incident took place on flight TR939, which departed from Hong Kong International Airport for the city state at 5.49pm the day before.

A spokesman said an overheated power bank had caused a small flame in the cabin, which was “promptly extinguished” by its cabin crew.

A passenger on the flight shared a video on Xiaohongshu on Nov. 23 of the aftermath of the incident.

According to tracking website FlightRadar24, the plane departed Hong Kong at 5.48pm.

A passenger, 28, who spoke to The Straits Times said she saw cabin crew rushing "to the middle of the cabin, then back to the front and rear" to retrieve protective gloves, ice and a fire extinguisher.

Reports said a "strong burning smell" filled the cabin as the flight approached landing.

A commenter, who was a passenger on board, posted a comment under the post and shared that a burn mark was seen on the cabin wall near a window seat. – November 24, 2025
