A MAN shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with police on the Banting–Dengkil road has been identified as the ringleader of a violent robbery syndicate active across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka since 2022.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M Kumar said the group, comprising roughly ten members and accomplices, had been involved in a series of aggressive robberies at private homes, construction sites, factories and e-waste facilities.
“This gang targeted residential homes, construction sites, and e-waste factories, armed with pistols, machetes, and iron rods,” he told reporters at the Sepang district police headquarters on Tuesday.
He added that the gang frequently removed and destroyed CCTV decoders, wore masks and gloves while committing their offences, and “did not hesitate to injure victims if threatened.”
Investigators have linked the group to 17 cases in Selangor and one case each in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, with total losses amounting to RM2.53 million.
Kumar said the deceased, a 30-year-old man from Sepang, had previously been charged in absentia on 19 November at the Shah Alam Sessions Court under Sections 395/397 and Section 377C of the Penal Code.
The court later issued an arrest warrant after granting a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.
“The suspect, originally from Sepang, Selangor, has 10 prior criminal records involving gang robbery, causing injury, housebreaking, and rioting,” he added, noting that the man was also wanted in connection with two robberies at project-site storage facilities in Sepang last year.
According to police, the operation that led to the shoot-out formed part of an intensified effort to detect and prevent further robberies in Banting, Dengkil and Sepang.
Officers from Bukit Aman’s D9 unit, assisted by the Special Branch and Selangor CID, attempted to stop the suspect at 8.10pm on Monday, but he fled at high speed in a Perodua Myvi.
A pursuit spanning about three kilometres ended in a collision, after which the suspect fired several shots at officers. Police returned fire, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a Remington Rand .45 pistol, three .45-calibre Kynoch rounds and seven transparent packets containing crystals believed to be syabu.
Kumar added the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960 and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - November 25, 2025
