FORMER senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has lodged a police report against political activist and businessman Albert Tei, accusing him of circulating false and defamatory claims implicating Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Shamsul describes the allegations as a deliberate attempt to undermine the government during the current Sabah Genera election campaign.
The former deputy minister, who resigned yesterday as the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary, submitted the report at approximately 5.05pm in Gum Gum, Sandakan, Sabah.
Speaking on the matter, Shamsul said Tei had levelled baseless accusations alleging that the Prime Minister had instructed recordings to be made involving several Sabah political leaders.
“This defamatory accusation is clearly an evil conspiracy aimed at tarnishing the image of the Prime Minister and a coordinated effort to topple the government undemocratically, especially in the midst of the Sabah election campaign,” he said.
Shamsul insisted that he would not allow anyone to misuse his name or his former positions to damage the administration or smear the Prime Minister.
“I am ready to extend full cooperation to PDRM and to any enforcement body, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM),” he added, expressing confidence that authorities would act swiftly.
The police report comes amid a MACC investigation into claims that businessman Albert Tei allegedly paid bribes to Shamsul in connection with a mining licence.
MACC Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that both Tei and Shamsul would be summoned to provide statements, with additional parties also called upon as part of evidence-gathering efforts.
Azam Baki urged the public to refrain from speculation pending the investigation.
The controversy followed a report from a local news portal in which former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli urged legal action against Tei, asserting that Shamsul had been targeted unfairly.
Shamsul’s resignation, announced on Tuesday, was prompted by what he described as attempts “to attack him personally and damage the image of the Madani government.” - November 26, 2025
