THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested Sofia Rini Buyong - the woman implicated in a video clip of a conversation with businessman Albert Tei on social media, last night.

According to reports in BuletinTV3, Sofia Rini was brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court and remanded for four days to assist in the investigation.

Sofia Rini's lawyer, Shugan Raman, said his client was arrested after appearing at the MACC Headquarters, Putrajaya to give a statement yesterday evening.

According to him, he received a call from an MACC officer at about 10.45pm last night informing him that his client had been detained for further investigation.

He said the arrest was made to assist in the investigation under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

The investigation is said to be related to allegations of corruption by Tei against the former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

Shamsul Iskandar resigned last Tuesday to defend himself against attacks he said were aimed at tarnishing the Prime Minister's image.
