A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been apprehended by police following an allegation of sexual assault against a teenage girl at a temporary relief centre (PPS) in Bachok, Kelantan, earlier this week.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 11 a.m. the day before yesterday, saw the suspect accost the 16-year-old victim inside the sanctuary designed to offer refuge to the displaced.

The two individuals were reportedly unknown to each other, having only engaged in conversation within the confines of the shelter before the young man allegedly committed the assault.

The victim swiftly reported the matter to her mother immediately after the incident, leading to a formal complaint being lodged with the authorities. Police responded rapidly to the report, detaining the individual shortly thereafter.

A source confirmed the immediate action taken by law enforcement

Confirming the incident, Bachok District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Ismail Jamaluddin stated that the suspect has been remanded for five days to assist with the ongoing inquiry.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Jamaluddin further disclosed that a preliminary background check on the suspect revealed prior criminal convictions related to drug and general criminal offences. - November 28, 2025
