THE flood situation in Terengganu showed signs of steady improvement this morning, with 5,666 evacuees from 1,663 families seeking shelter at 101 temporary relief centres as of 8am on Sunday.
The figure marks a slight drop from 5,881 evacuees recorded an hour earlier, according to the Social Welfare Department’s disaster information portal.
Seven districts in the state remain affected. Kuala Terengganu has the highest number of evacuees, with 1,493 people from 545 families housed across nine centres.
Marang follows with 1,144 evacuees from 252 families sheltering at 16 centres. Kemaman currently accommodates 886 people, while Kuala Nerus records 803, Setiu 656, Dungun 491 and Hulu Terengganu 193.
Across the border in Kelantan, the situation has improved more markedly, with only 1,838 flood victims still at temporary centres as of 8am. Flooding now persists in just three districts: Tumpat, Pasir Mas and Gua Musang.
Data from the Social Welfare Department shows Pasir Mas remains the most affected, hosting 1,500 evacuees at five centres. Tumpat shelters 309 people at two centres, while Gua Musang records 29 evacuees at a single facility.
Authorities expect the number of evacuees in both states to continue declining throughout the day as weather conditions improve and floodwaters gradually recede. - November 30, 2025
