PARTI Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) has reiterated that it will not join the GRS government, insisting that the state of Sabah should be governed solely by local parties rather than national coalitions
Presiding over the party, Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, stressed that STAR remains steadfast in its belief that Sabah must be administered by homegrown political forces.
“STAR wishes to clarify its position following the formation of the new Sabah state government. STAR will not be part of the GRS government.
“Our stance remains unchanged – Sabah must be governed by local parties, not by a coalition that relies on the influence of parties from Peninsular Malaysia,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Addressing the recent appointment of one of STAR’s elected representatives, Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub, as Assistant Minister, Jeffrey clarified that the decision was made directly by the Chief Minister and was not negotiated by the party.
“This was not a position negotiated by the party. He is the elected representative for Bingkor, and we respect his prerogative to accept the appointment,” he explained.
Jeffrey added that STAR will act as a responsible opposition bloc, committed to safeguarding Sabah’s interests.
“We will support policies that protect Sabah, and we will oppose any measures that undermine the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the Constitution, or the long-standing struggle to return Sabah to its people.
“Our position is consistent and firm. We support a state government formed entirely by Sabah-based parties. STAR will continue to carry out its duties with integrity, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to Sabah and its people,” he asserted. - December 2, 2025
