THE recent calls by 14 divisions of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Perak for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as party president do not represent the official stance of the state leadership, according to a joint statement issued by the party’s Perak divisions.
The statement clarified that only nine division chiefs participated in the media conference led by Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) member Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, while the remaining participants were not officeholders of any division.
“Other individuals who were present attended in a personal capacity and should not be regarded as the collective position of Bersatu’s leadership in Perak,” the statement said.
This clarification comes in response to media reports on Wednesday highlighting demands from 14 Bersatu Perak divisions urging Muhyiddin’s resignation over what was cited as his failure to manage ongoing internal party disputes.
The Perak division chiefs criticised the decision to air internal party matters publicly, describing it as inappropriate and inconsistent with party discipline.
They emphasised that as an MPT member, Zainol Fadzi should have raised any concerns or disagreements through formal Supreme Leadership Council meetings rather than through a public media platform, which risks causing confusion among grassroots members.
“The action undermines the party’s image and creates a misleading perception about the stability and cohesion of Bersatu’s leadership in Perak. Such situations only benefit opposing parties,” the statement added.
The 14 division chiefs who signed the statement reaffirmed their full and unwavering support for Muhyiddin as Bersatu president, pledging their commitment to strengthening party operations ahead of the 16th General Election.
Those endorsing the statement include Bersatu Perak Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Tambun); Dr Hashim Bujang (Kuala Kangsar); Datuk Muhammad Yadzan Mohammad (Tanjong Malim); as well as division chiefs from Batu Gajah, Ipoh Barat, Bagan Datuk, Taiping, Lenggong, Lumut, Parit Buntar, Sungai Siput, Gerik, Beruas, and Parit.
This announcement seeks to reassure members and the public alike that Bersatu’s Perak leadership remains united and focused on consolidating the party’s strength in the lead-up to the upcoming general election. - December 11, 2025
