MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said he is looking forward to returning to his constituency and resuming his duties, as the Federal Court on Friday wrapped up the prosecution’s appeal seeking to overturn his acquittal on four charges linked to Armada funds.
“For now, I cannot wait to return to Muar. There is much work waiting, and I am always enthusiastic about serving my constituency as usual,” he said when approached after the final day of submissions in Putrajaya.
Calm throughout the proceedings, he said his focus remains on carrying out his responsibilities as an elected representative while leaving the outcome entirely to the court.
“This case has gone on for nearly 700 days without any attempt on our part to delay the process.
“Thank you to my friends in the media. First of all, I want to express my appreciation to my incredible legal team,” he said outside the lobby of the Putrajaya Courts Complex.
He said his lawyers had worked tirelessly in pursuit of justice.
“We never sought postponements or attempted to delay the process. At the end of the day, we believe that truth — even if it takes time — will prevail.
“I place my full trust in God and in the judiciary itself. If not today, then tomorrow. If not tomorrow, then next month. But the truth will win in the end.”
He confirmed no decision had been delivered and declined to comment on the judges’ remarks inviting the prosecution to review its position.
“To be honest, I do not want to put myself in the position of the judges. I truly respect the judiciary — not just individual judges, but the entire institution,” he said.
He added that despite going through a difficult period after being convicted at the High Court, he never made statements that could undermine the judiciary.
“It is not about individuals. It is about the judicial institution, which must be defended.
“It is the last bastion of protection for those without a voice and for people who need that final safeguard,” he said.
Syed Saddiq also expressed respect for the three-judge panel hearing the appeal and for the entire judicial process.
“After this, everything is up to the court to consider,” he added.
His legal team is led by Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, together with Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, Kee Wei Lon, S Devanandan, Low Wei Loke, Lim Wei Jiet, Siti Summaiyah Ahmad Jaafar, Mohammed Khairuzzaman Mohammed Ridha, Ee Gen You and Nevyn Vinosh Venudran.
The prosecution, acting as the appellant, is represented by Deputy Public Prosecutors Datuk Wan Shaharudin Wan Ladin, Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib, Farah Ezlin Yusop Khan, Law Chin How, Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar, Muhammad Asraf Mohamed Tahir and Wan Nur Iman Wan Ahmad Afzal.
The matter was heard before a three-member Federal Court panel chaired by Court of Appeal President Datuk Abu Bakar Jais, sitting with Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali and Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
