THE Special Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that although the special meeting to strengthen ASEAN's collective role in maintaining regional peace has been postponed, Malaysia is still coordinating and monitoring the situation.

"The Special Meeting of Foreign Ministers scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed a little, so that we can ensure that all matters can be arranged properly.

"However, we continue to appeal to them to stop the fighting. This is very critical," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

Anwar said he was in constant contact with his Thai counterparts, Anutin Charnvirakul and Hun Manet from Cambodia.

"I am in contact with them virtually almost every day," he said.

Commenting on the blockade order in the Gulf of Thailand to prevent the delivery of fuel and military supplies to Cambodia, Anwar said the matter was still under negotiation.

"We are still negotiating to defuse the situation," he said.

Bangkok denied claims by US President Donald Trump that a ceasefire had been agreed with Cambodia to halt renewed fighting, which has entered its second week.

Thai leaders insisted no ceasefire agreement had been reached and both governments said fighting was still ongoing on Monday.

Thai Defense Ministry spokesman Surasant Kongsiri said Cambodia had fired and shelled several border areas at night.

Meanwhile, Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesman Maly Socheata said Thailand had continued to fire mortars and bombs into the border area since midnight.

Thailand and Cambodia have disputed parts of the 817-kilometer land border for more than a century, with the dispute over ancient temples sometimes sparking armed clashes, including a week-long artillery exchange that claimed many lives in 2011.

Tensions flared again in May after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a skirmish, sparking a sharp increase in the military presence and fresh fighting that has strained diplomatic relations between the two countries. – December 15, 2025
