THE family of Suri Narudin have expressed shock and disbelief after the man now suspected of involvement in her disappearance was revealed to be someone they had trusted fully.

Sasha, 38, the victim’s niece, said the 51-year-old suspect had been known to the family for around six years and had never given cause for suspicion prior to the incident.

“I myself paid him to pick up my children from school because we trusted and felt comfortable with his presence,” she said on Saturday.

According to Sasha, the trust extended to the suspect managing matters related to the family’s children. She added that what was particularly alarming was that the man continued to perform these duties even after Suri was reported missing.

“After my aunt could not be located, he still came to pick up my two daughters as if nothing had happened,” she said.

Sasha last saw her aunt on 5 December, after which their communications were limited to social media. Concern grew when Suri could not be reached from 8 December, despite being active online and usually responding promptly.

“We started to feel something was wrong when she did not reply to messages or calls at all,” Sasha said.

Suspicion heightened as the suspect’s explanations about Suri’s whereabouts were inconsistent. “He said my aunt was sent to the airport by someone else, but the story kept changing,” she added.

Addressing claims that Suri and the suspect were married, Sasha categorically denied any such knowledge within the family.

“In a police report filed by the suspect’s child, it was stated that they were married, but as far as we know, my aunt never married him,” she said.

She clarified that their relationship was that of a couple, which may have led to misunderstandings among certain parties.

Sasha further described the relationship as close but ordinary, with personal matters shared mainly in the normal course of a partnership. “There may have been occasional disagreements, including financial matters, but nothing serious,” she said.

Earlier, police confirmed the discovery of a woman’s body suspected to be linked to a missing person case reported in Selangor.

A search was conducted at a house on Jalan Pedas–Linggi, Rembau, on 18 December. Following the discovery, a man was arrested in Melaka on the same day to assist with investigations.

The suspect is currently remanded for seven days until 25 December under Section 302 of the Penal Code as police continue their investigation. - December 21, 2025
