THE suspect linked to a homemade explosive device (IED) explosion in Nilai was found hiding in a forested area near Batang Benar after the blast on December 22, police confirmed.
The man, aged 62, sustained burns to his face, hands, and legs and was discovered in a weakened condition.
Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the suspect had fled to the forest following the explosion at a parking area near Desa Palma.
He was located after members of the public, who had entered the forest to collect forest produce, spotted him and alerted the authorities.
"Upon being found, the suspect was unconscious alongside a motorcycle and several IEDs. He had been hiding in the area, and if not discovered within two days, the elderly man could have faced fatal consequences," Alzafny said.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban. "We have not obtained much information from him yet, as he is still under medical care. Investigations are ongoing, pending further statements from the individual," he added.
Police confirmed the probe is being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act 1958, and Section 435 of the Penal Code for causing damage by explosive substances.
According to reports, the December 22 incident occurred in the early hours when the IED detonated inside a car as the suspect allegedly attempted to move the device. He managed to flee the initial scene before being found in the forest several days later with injuries.
