PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday expressed gratitude for what he described as the strong and genuine cooperation within the Unity Government, saying it stood in clear contrast to political developments unfolding among the opposition in Perlis.
Anwar said the pact underpinning the Unity Government was more stable and sincere, and was not marred by internal sabotage or betrayal.
“I am grateful that the Unity Government’s cooperation is more solid and more sincere, and that there are no efforts at sabotage or betrayal, unlike what is happening among other parties (the opposition),” he told a press conference here.
He was responding to questions on the political situation involving the opposition-led government in Perlis, where recent developments have highlighted strains within the ruling bloc.
Malaysia Warns Against Return To Large-Scale Violence In Gaza, Urges Accountability For Israel
Separately, the Prime Minister said he was deeply concerned that a resurgence of violence would not only worsen humanitarian conditions but also risk destroying what little hope remains for a peaceful resolution.
“Regarding Gaza, I take note of the recent discussions held in Florida aimed at addressing the next phase of the peace process,” he said.
“It must be clear that there cannot be a return to large-scale violence. Any resurgence will impose unacceptable costs on civilians and continue to erode the already fragile prospects for peace.
“Israel must be held accountable for all its actions and obligations under international law,” he told a press conference in Putrajaya on Tuesday.
Anwar also addressed reports concerning Israel’s recognition of a territory referred to as Somaliland, saying Malaysia firmly rejects such a move, particularly if it is linked to proposals to forcibly relocate or expel Palestinians from Gaza.
He said Malaysia’s position is aligned with that of a large group of countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, all of which oppose Israel’s recognition of the territory.
“We express strong and unequivocal opposition to any attempt to use ‘Somaliland’ or any other territory as a destination for the forced transfer or expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza,” he said.
“Such ideas are completely unacceptable, violate international law and humanitarian principles, and will only perpetuate injustice rather than contribute to peace.
“We reject all actions that undermine the international legal order,” he added. - December 30, 2025
