A 40-YEAR-OLD teacher pleaded guilty on Wednesday at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur to three charges of committing physical sexual assault against two male pupils at a religious primary school in Wangsa Maju.
The accused, identified as Kumpul, an Indonesian national, was charged with committing the offences between April 2024 and November 2025. The charges were brought under Section 14(a) and Section 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Section 14(a) of the Act provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction, while Section 16(1) carries a penalty of up to five years’ jail and a minimum of two strokes of the cane.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Pervinah Mohamad Yusof told the court that bail should not be offered, citing immigration checks which revealed discrepancies between the accused’s passport information and his personal details. She also said there was a risk that the accused could abscond, and requested additional dates to present the facts of the case and submissions on sentencing.
Sessions Court judge Noridah Adam denied bail to the accused, who was not represented by legal counsel, and fixed January 5 and January 21 for the presentation of facts and sentencing proceedings. - December 31, 2025
