A WOMAN and her boyfriend have been detained after allegedly attempting to murder her husband over his insurance contributions, police confirmed.

The arrest came a day after the incident, which occurred on 22 December at a residence in Taman Ehsan Jaya.

According to Seri Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, the attack was reportedly motivated by the couple’s desire to access the husband’s insurance funds.

“In this incident, the victim, a 47-year-old local man, was allegedly attacked by a male suspect, believed to be his wife’s boyfriend, who attempted to suffocate him with a pillow while he was asleep,” Mohd Sohaimi said.

Investigations revealed that the victim’s wife had allowed her partner into the home while her husband slept.

“Not satisfied with merely permitting entry, the woman allegedly held the victim’s legs to assist her boyfriend in covering his face, causing difficulty in breathing,” he added.

The victim reportedly struggled but managed to escape, while the male suspect fled the scene on the day of the attack.

Further inquiries indicated that in the week leading up to the incident, the wife had frequently questioned her husband about the total sum of his insurance contributions and the company managing them.

Mohd Sohaimi confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. He added that the investigation papers have been completed and referred to the Johor State Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“Instructions have been obtained to charge both the wife and her boyfriend, and they are scheduled to be charged in the Sessions Court here today,” he said. - January 2, 2026
