UMNO Youth convention decisions must go through supreme council, general assembly - Ahmad Maslan
Ahmad Maslan says major decisions affecting the party’s direction cannot be made unilaterally by any wing of the party - January 3, 2025

ANY decision made by UMNO Youth through its upcoming Special Convention regarding the party’s position in the Unity Government cannot stand on their own and must instead be formally discussed and decided through UMNO’s highest decision-making platforms, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said.

The UMNO Supreme Council member stressed that major decisions affecting the party’s direction cannot be made unilaterally by any wing of the party, including its youth movement.

“Any decision must be discussed at UMNO’s two main platforms, namely the Supreme Council meeting and the UMNO General Assembly.

“We are all aware that two major party meetings will be held in January, with the UMNO General Assembly scheduled from January 14 to 17,” he said.

Ahmad, who is also the Pontian Member of Parliament, said this at a press conference after attending the Cakna Ilmu Tanah programme in Kampung Parit Dato Onn here on Saturday.

He emphasised that all proposals, including those currently being raised by UMNO Youth, must first be tabled and deliberated at the Supreme Council level before any final decision is made by the UMNO General Assembly.

“I have previously served as UMNO information chief and secretary-general.

“I fully understand that the party’s direction, whether to maintain the status quo or to make changes, can only be determined by the Supreme Council and the UMNO General Assembly,” he said.

On December 28, UMNO Youth was reported to be organising a Special Convention as a platform to discuss, review and decide on the party’s direction, particularly its position within the Unity Government, scheduled to take place on January 3.

UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh was quoted as saying that the convention would be held at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. - January 3, 2025
