A FORM Three male student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Midin did not live to begin the first day of the new school term after he was killed in a road accident along Jalan Kepong here this morning.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the victim, Noor Hazimi Noor Hashim, died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries to several parts of his body.

Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when the Honda EX5 motorcycle ridden by the victim, travelling from the direction of the Caltex station in Pengadang Baru, was struck by a Perodua Axia coming from Kampung Serada towards Titian Baru, Tepoh, in Kuala Nerus.

“Police received a call from a member of the public at 7.55am informing us of an accident on Jalan Kepong, Kuala Terengganu,” he said in a statement today.

“The incident is believed to have occurred when the victim’s motorcycle, which was travelling straight, was hit by the Axia driver coming from the opposite direction.

“The collision caused Noor Hazimi to die at the scene, while the Axia driver did not sustain any injuries,” he said.

Azli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Noor Hashim Puteh, 55, said his son had been on his way home to Kampung Belukar Sukai after refuelling at the Caltex station, located about five kilometres from their house.

He said his son had planned to pick up his 14-year-old sister from home before heading to school together on the motorcycle.

“I left the house at 6.35am and received a call about half an hour later. I really did not expect this because my late son was already used to riding a motorcycle to school,” he said when met at the scene. - January 11, 2026
