THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is continuing its investigation into a former minister suspected of receiving approximately RM5 million in bribes and a luxury vehicle, its chief commissioner has confirmed.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the agency would disclose further developments in due course, with a comprehensive update scheduled to be announced at a forthcoming press conference.
“A press conference will be held on 15 January to provide the latest developments, covering the period from last year until early this year,” he said.
Azam made the remarks when speaking to reporters after the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between MACC and HELP University at a hotel here on Thursday.
Earlier reports stated that MACC had launched an investigation into the former minister over allegations that he received around RM5 million from a property development company.
He is also alleged to have accepted a luxury Lamborghini from an advertising billboard company.
The former minister has already appeared at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to have his statement recorded, and investigators are now focusing on tracing the source of payment for the luxury car.
Separately, in relation to a land-related case, preliminary investigations have found that parcels of land previously gazetted for the construction of a surau were transferred to a proxy company.
To date, 16 witnesses comprising government officials and company owners have had their statements recorded to assist investigations into both cases. - January 13, 2026
