THE policeman who went viral for slapping a motorcyclist at a petrol station in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru, last Sunday has been stopped from all operational duties.
Johor Police Chief, Datuk Ab. Rahaman Arsad said the order was issued to enable an investigation to be carried out.
He explained that the incident that went viral occurred during a traffic operation to combat speeding that was being carried out by the Johor Bahru North District Police Headquarters in the Taman Perling area.
“The constable-ranked member involved was on leave that day, but was called to duty to participate in the operation, and his name was on the assignment list.
"The exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, but it is understood that policemen were trying to stop the motorcycle being ridden by the victim, who was trying to escape," he said.
He said the 21-year-old motorcyclist lodged a police report at around 8 pm, Sunday.
"Police conducted a preliminary investigation before the victim lodged a report because one of the policemen who was also at the location also lodged a police report regarding the incident.
"So far, four witnesses, including the victim and the policeman concerned, have been called to have their statements recorded to assist in the investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code. The case will be referred to the Prosecution Division of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department before being submitted to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further instructions," he said. – January 13, 2026
