A SHORT video circulating on TikTok and Facebook showing a Malay nurse feeding an Indian patient has touched a chord with Malaysians, prompting an outpouring of praise for what many describe as a sincere act of humanity beyond racial or religious boundaries.
The video was shared by Senator R A Lingeshwaran, who said the moment resonated deeply with viewers because it captured the nurse’s genuine sincerity in caring for a patient, regardless of race or background.
Lingeshwaran described the scene as the true face of Malaysia, one that quietly serves without seeking recognition or the attention of cameras, guided solely by compassion.
“Congratulations to nurse Nur Deena Nadziefa Musni from Hospital Seberang Jaya, Penang. At the moment when a person is at their weakest, it is not race that matters, only humanity,” he wrote.
He added: “A Malay nurse feeding an Indian patient. No discrimination, no difference in skin colour, religion or background.”
“On a hospital bed, we are all the same. A human being in need of love, attention and compassion. Thank you, nurse, because when we are helpless, you are our strength,” he said in a post on Monday.
The post, which Lingeshwaran shared on both TikTok and Facebook, attracted many positive comments praising the nurse’s kindness, although some noted that such actions are part of a nurse’s daily routine in caring for patients.
Others commended her empathy and patience, especially in attending to elderly patients and taking the time to ensure they are able to eat properly.
“Feeding with her own hands, without any sense of disgust. Congratulations to a nurse who works with her heart,” wrote Shima Yusuf.
Another user, Abbiey Altunia, said such acts were common in hospitals. “I often see this at the Haemodialysis Unit of Penang Hospital. Many nurses help feed patients, change diapers, escort them to the bathroom and lend a shoulder for patients to lean on,” she said.
Geetha Preto Kaur echoed the sentiment, writing: “That sense of humanity never fades. When we love our profession, everyone is the same regardless of skin colour, race or religion. Salute to our healthcare workers.”
