IN a pointed intervention ahead of escalating political manoeuvres, DAP Deputy Chairman Nga Kor Ming has urged Umno to reconsider its perception of rivals, arguing that the party’s electoral setbacks came largely at the hands of PAS rather than DAP.
Nga, who also serves as the Minister of Housing and Local Government, drew attention to remarks made at the recent Umno General Assembly, where a delegate from Terengganu reportedly admitted being “2,000 times more disappointed in PAS than DAP.”
Citing Umno’s performance in the last general election, Nga noted that the party managed to secure only 26 of the 119 seats it contested.
“Did Umno lose even one seat to DAP? No. So, who did Umno lose 93 seats to? Guess the answer, and you will understand who Umno's real enemy is,” he posted on social media platform X.
The timing of Nga’s statement follows heightened rhetoric at the Umno assembly, where party leaders warned coalition partners against crossing “red lines” and implied that DAP’s criticism of Umno leadership, including former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, represented a challenge to party authority.
Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi accused a faction within DAP, allegedly operating independently of its central leadership, of making statements targeting senior Umno figures.
Nga’s intervention signals the continuing friction within Malaysia’s coalition politics, as parties navigate electoral losses, inter-party tensions, and the complex balance of alliances ahead of future contests. - January 18, 2026
