THE identities of the two victims who were found burnt inside a car following a fatal accident at the northbound Jitra Toll Plaza in the early hours of Monday have been confirmed as Pang Seng Ching, 21, and his girlfriend, Tan Hui Shan, 20.
Seng Ching, who was driving the Honda Civic involved in the crash, was from Pauh, Perlis, while Hui Shan was from Jelutong, Penang.
Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said the incident occurred at about 1.15am when the vehicle, driven by Seng Ching, who was also a trader, is believed to have gone out of control before crashing into the toll lane divider, known as the island nose.
“The car then overturned and caught fire. As a result of the accident, both victims were confirmed dead at the scene,” he said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the bodies were sent to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for post-mortem examinations.
“The post-mortem found that the cause of death of the driver was chest injuries sustained in the accident, accompanied by severe burn injuries.
“The cause of death of the passenger, meanwhile, was severe burn injuries as well as smoke inhalation resulting from the car fire following the accident,” he said.
Mohd Radzi said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - January 20, 2026
