FAILURE to comply with the Minimum Wage Order 2024 and the practice of paying wages in daily cash payments were among the main offences detected during an enforcement operation by the Selangor Labour Department at a courier services company here last night.
The operation, conducted by the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department and coordinated by the Selangor Labour Department’s Special Enforcement Team, involved 35 enforcement officers and focused on employers in the courier services sector.
Deputy Director-General of Operations at the Peninsular Malaysia Labour Department, Betty Hasan, said the on-site operation reflected the department’s continued commitment to ensuring full compliance with the country’s labour laws.
“As a result of tonight’s operation, a total of 120 local workers and 175 foreign workers of various backgrounds were inspected,” she said. “All the foreign workers were from several countries including Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.”
She said offences detected under legislation enforced by the department included employers’ failure to comply with the Minimum Wage Order 2024, as well as violations under the Employment Act 1955 involving Section 25A, which prohibits the payment of wages in daily cash payments.
According to Betty, investigators also detected breaches of Section 60A of the same Act, relating to the failure to pay overtime wages.
She said the department would continue to intensify enforcement operations in line with its statutory powers.
“This enforcement is crucial as a proactive measure by the department to curb non-compliance with any labour laws,” she said.
She added that consistent enforcement was necessary to safeguard the welfare of both local and foreign workers and to strengthen industrial harmony nationwide.
“Furthermore, these enforcement operations also serve as a platform to provide explanations, advice and guidance to employers on the importance of complying with labour laws,” she said. “This is in line with the government’s efforts to create a fair, safe and prosperous working environment for all parties.” - January 23, 2026
