UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expects the Melaka State Election (PRN) to be held within the next two to 10 months.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said UMNO leaders in the state face a tough task to defend their excellent record after successfully winning more than three-quarters of the seats in the previous PRN.

"I often remind myself that achieving success is difficult, but maintaining success is even more difficult.

"I remind my friends in Melaka, now our task is to maintain success. I don't want this difficulty to exceed the difficulties we faced in the last state election," he said in Melaka today.

Also present was the Head of the Kota Melaka UMNO Division, who is also the state Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Exco Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman.

Meanwhile, when asked about the concept of Rumah Bangsa that may be applied in the Melaka PRN this time, Ahmad Zahid said the details would be discussed with the Chairman of the Melaka UMNO Liaison Body, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

"When he returns (from China), we will detail the methodology that will be used to translate Rumah Bangsa into the context of the Melaka PRN," he said.

In the 2021 Melaka PRN, Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 seats contested. The five-year term of the Melaka DUN is expected to end this December. – January 24, 2026
