AMENDMENTS to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, widely known as Sosma, are expected to be presented to Parliament during the next meeting of the Dewan Rakyat, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed.
In a written reply dated January 27, Saifuddin stated that the draft Bill is in its final stage of review, with the Home Ministry, Attorney-General’s Chambers, and police carefully examining its provisions.
“The draft is expected to be tabled in Parliament during the Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament,” he said.
The minister emphasised that the amendments will proceed only after comprehensive consultations with all relevant stakeholders and once cabinet approval is secured.
His remarks were made in response to a question from RSN Rayer (PH–Jelutong) regarding the timeline for implementing the proposed legal reforms.
The revisions aim to update Sosma, which governs preventive detention and security-related offences, reflecting the government’s commitment to balancing national security measures with legal safeguards. - January 28, 2026
