A SINGLE mother has been ordered to pay RM2,500 by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court after admitting to soliciting sexual services at a hotel in the city last week.
Azwana Sulaiman, 46, from Pandamaran Jaya, Port Klang, Selangor, pleaded guilty to the offence before Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani.
She was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine, or both. The court ruled that if she fails to pay the fine, she could face three months’ imprisonment.
The offence occurred at around 8.05pm on 12 February, in a hotel room on Jalan Persisiran Bunga Raya, Melaka. According to court records, police from the D7 Branch (Gangsterism, Vice and Gambling) of the Melaka Contingent Police Headquarters had conducted surveillance after receiving information that sexual services were being offered via the WeChat application.
During the raid, officers discovered a tube of lubricant, three condoms, wet wipes, tissues, a mobile phone, a sex aid, and RM350 in cash. Upon questioning, Azwana admitted that she had been engaging in prostitution for the past two years.
The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Shauki Mardia Baharudin, while Azwana was defended by lawyer Nigel Tai.
Tai pleaded for a lighter sentence, citing that his client is a single mother working as a restaurant server, responsible for supporting four children, including one still in college and another awaiting Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia results. - February 17, 2026
